it turned out that the C-rich strands of human telomeres are transcribed from very distal subtelomeric promoters by the RNA polymerase II, generating telomeric repeat-containing RNA (TERRA) molecules composed of subtelomeric sequences at their 5′ end followed by (UUAGGG)n repeats
